From the introduction to a book chapter on buying things for smartphones used by special needs adults (“Explorers” in the book) who are often unbanked and rarely have credit cards):
Apple has provided many ways for customers to purchase digital products, including customers that don’t have credit cards or even bank accounts. That’s good for Explorers, but it can be confusing. It doesn’t help that Apple has multiple kinds of “store” and they currently use the term “Apple Store” for where they sell physical goods online and offline. … For the purposes of our discussion I’m going to use the term iPhoneStore for the digital things we buy buy from Apple for an iPhone through an Apple ID. This includes Apps, Movies & Video, Music, Books & Audiobooks. Sometimes Apple calls this all “Content”.
This is so confusing.
