Toggle from recent to manual then back to recent gives alpha.
Google says Apple is screwing up basic email sending server authentication.
Message shown when Apple email goes to spam. I suspect Google is right.
Google Docs is closest thing we have to TBL’s (CERN) original web vision
Links, collaborative authoring…
Digital anachronisms are a sign of the times.
From Excel 365 to Flickr, jarring mixtures of new and old UI elements. It’s an age thing.
Every Trello user can see every other user’s name and avatar.
Choose your avatar carefully.
In MSP region majority specialist medical care is by physician assistant.
It is a remarkable change. Suspect much of country is going to go this way.
US Passport process for adults with guardians is really screwed up.
This may be new. Trying to get passport renewed for #1 son. There’s no documentation of process now that he is guardianship. Local passport office did it wrong. Central office asking for new court forms. It is a flaming ball of poop.
One great Spotify advantage — I don’t have to use iTunes sync.
Just keeps getting worse.
All non-transient photo sharing is decrepit.
Not just Flickr. There are no first class solutions for non-transient image sharing. There’s room for one.
Flickr is decrepit.
Only full res image sharing that works with Aperture, so I’m using my 2004 account. Bizarre mix of old and new. Software gerontology deserves an academic paper.
Could we some day make Apple liable for destroying our personal digital property?
Status
Not just Apple of course. Thinking about trainwreck of Aperture’s End. Apple’s strategic data lock means I am losing much of value to me.
Personal data. Memories. More valuable than many physical possessions.
If Apple came into my home and trashed it they would be liable.
One day will we treat personal digital goods as legally equivalent? Might Apple then be liable?
I like the idea of Data Lock as a crime.
“Slow Roll” bike rides: Critical Mass with conscience and a mission.

Joined one in Saint Paul. Ride marshals have to tolerate being ignored …
Audiobooks and iOS: Amazon owns Audible

May explain why metadata no longer works. Amazon has no iOS love.
I’m still cleaning up crap from Google’s Artificial Stupidity Goals
Created infinite events that must be deleted one at a time.
Myspace hack rumors. My 10 yo password still worked
Untouched in 10y. I changed password.
If Apple is redoing security team, will they eliminate inane secret security questions?
The stupidity burns. I’m now forced to add answers to each of our 5 iCloud accounts.
In all human history, what culture has had least tolerance for violence?
Norway 2016?
Signs times: body shop reports rear-end stoplight collisions are year-round now.
No longer bad weather only. After-market bumper growth. A woman on phone crashed into us yesterday. Imagine pedestrian fatalities…
What else has Thiel done?

The question every true journalist in America is asking. Given his power and temperament…
Bezos. Murdoch. Trump. Now Thiel.

Way past worry.
Apple – fix your calendars before you do Siri 2.
Siri 2 vs. working calendar solution. One of these is useful to me.
iCloud Notes sync slow and troubled last few weeks
Notes slow to be updated, easy to create conflicting notes that then duplicate.
Google Calendar (web) and iCloud Calendar (web) can’t send invitations to each other
When do we enter the century of the fruitbat?
passwords.google.com will show the passwords Chrome knows about
For better or worse. If you sync using a separate passcode they can’t display here.
PowerPoint 365 Mac has old school independent windows.
Vastly superior to the stuck-in-one-container PowerPoint Windows.
LinkedIn: “we now use salted hashes to store passwords”
Trans: Pre-hack we didn’t bother with the basics.
Measuring physicians – a relevant lesson from days past.
Crosswalk failure: We need to get rid of the 4 lane urban streets.
After watching Minneapolis-St Paul fail miserably at putting a crosswalk law in place, I’ve decided we’re fighting the wrong war.
We will never get humans to safely interact with pedestrians on our hell-damned four lane urban streets.
We need to convert every last one of them to 3 lanes.
OS X Handoff would be nicer without the SPOD
Kind of useless on Yosemite. Maybe El Cap is better?
Email is as dead as rollerblading
I liked rollerblading. I even liked email. Both dead. I looked at my wife’s email today — a river of legal spam.
Apple app store: 3 star review invisibility a small but telling failure
My Amazon experience is the most useful reviews are in the 2 to 4 star range. ! and 5 star reviews are often a waste.
Apple’s store UI sorts descending or ascending, no way to select 3 star. It’s a dumb UI.
“It is almost as if digital tech is simultaneously increasing and decreasing economic productivity, so we see only the delta”.
Footnote to a blog post I’m writing. I believe this, but I can’t think of a way to test the hypothesis. Will need to wait for the AIs to explain it to us.
In the late 80s I knew a handful of people who used email.
Thirty years later I again know a handful of people who use email.
Facebook: fb.me/username redirects
Facebook has added redirects. So fb.me/sphone4all goes to my book page.
Hot trends in healthcare: “I need antibiotics for my cold because my husband got them from VirtuWell”.
At least the telemed-AIs of 2020 will know everything about us, including our Apple Watch monitored alcohol levels.
Android restriction/parental controls really and truly suck.
Search Android device user guide for child, find “products are not toys and may be hazardous to small children”. Nothing on ‘restrict” either. iOS very different.
Apple store battery swap: 1 appointment for each device
When servicing multiple they need to create 1 appt for each device.
Photos.app has same disastrous export behavior as iPhoto
When you export a mixed set of still and video images as JPEG the video images are silently omitted. Then when you delete the set …
OS X vs. iOS: one of these requires delete/restore every few months
Old man gym tip #38
Open gym days are a great way to find out which injuries are pending.
Old man gym tip #37
If you’re on an alpha-blocker do air squats after heavy lifts. Avoid embarrassing faints.
Sad little iOS 9 pleasures …
After force quitting every background app on my phone I like to switch to the Search screen just so I can see it actually working.
Office 365 Mac has lots of little bugs.
Annoyances with workarounds, but easy to find. Especially Excel. Room to improve.
Google Drive unstable on Mac when using Office docs.
The ‘help me find myself’ error dialog appears. I quit it when working on Excel docs, restart when done.
Brother now on my sh*t list.
Their toner recycling page comes with opt-in spam.
Kindle will never support EPUB format.
Curious part is nobody seems to mind.
Got a lemon on Brother laser drum purchase – “Sold by Amazon”
Got return credit 30d post-purchase. Use these things immediately, don’t let em sit. Are counterfeits now infecting “sold by” stream?
Office 365 Mac: Excel data filters don’t work in a secondary display
The data filter drop down appears then vanishes (behind window?). Works as intended if Excel is in the primary display. Weirdly I can’t find mention of this bug – trivial to replicate.
Does US Bank win the secret question abuse award?
Switching checking accounts is very painful, but I’m considering. Class C security team.
